Prague - The project for the reconstruction and extension of the building next to the Prague 3 town hall on Havlíčkovo náměstí into a primary school will be carried out for the municipality by the architectural studio LOXIA Architectes Ingenierie for 29.9 million crowns. This follows information published in the public procurement bulletin. According to earlier information, a new gym with a cafeteria will be added to the building.
The school was previously located in the building, but in 2014, the municipality decided to move officials into it. However, this never happened, and the building has been empty since then. The city council of Prague 3 decided on the reconstruction costing hundreds of millions of crowns this June due to new construction and the approaching lack of places in schools. The project will include the renovation of the existing building and the construction of a new one on the neighboring plot, where a school cafeteria and gym are expected to be established.
According to earlier information from the municipality, the school could start operating in four to five years. According to a study commissioned by the municipality, Prague 3 is projected to have up to 95,000 inhabitants by 2050, which is about 20,000 more than currently. The anticipated population growth is primarily related to a new neighborhood expected to be developed on the site of the Žižkov Freight Station. Two additional primary schools and several kindergartens are planned to be built there.
Prague's municipalities have long been addressing the shortage of places in schools and kindergartens. This issue affects the outskirts of the metropolis, as well as the wider city center, in both cases primarily due to new construction. Many municipalities, including Prague 3, are planning to build new schools, as well as Prague 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.
