Brno – Another stage of renovations at the polyclinic in Lesná has been completed in Brno. The facility now has a new pediatrics section and a main entrance with a reception area. The interior modifications, which lasted for two years with ongoing operations, cost just under 25 million crowns. This was announced to the press today by Brno's health councilor Dagmar Seidlová.
The work followed the facade replacement, which was finished in 2019 and cost over 160 million crowns. "Now we have started renovations in the entrance hall, where we have established a new reception with a registration desk. We are also expanding the information system in the form of indicators, which will make navigation around the building more transparent," Seidlová stated.
A fundamental change is the wheelchair accessibility to the pediatrics section, which is now possible through the main vestibule. In the past, pediatrics was separated from the rest to prevent children from encountering adult patients. "However, it was very inconvenient for parents with children; if they wanted to go from pediatrics to the pharmacy, they had to walk around the building outside," said Dan Zeman, the director of the city-funded organization Health Facilities Association II Brno, which manages the polyclinic building.
The new pediatrics section features a children's corner and two examination rooms. One is currently occupied, and the organization is ideally looking for a pediatric dermatologist, psychologist, or speech therapist for the other. There are five examination rooms in the old pediatrics section.
The Lesná polyclinic was established at Halasovo náměstí at the turn of the 60s and 70s and was opened in 1974. The architects from the dkarchitekti office who designed the reconstruction took the original appearance into account. For example, the corridor is adorned with the original green mosaic complemented by wooden paneling. The renovated mosaic from 1975 is also present in the entrance hall.
The city contributed just under 15 million crowns to the reconstruction, and the funding organization allocated 10 million for it. According to Zeman, however, the renovations do not end here, and plans for next year include the replacement of the internal electrical system and the restoration of greenery in the atriums.
The facility in Lesná is the second-largest polyclinic in Brno after Zahradníková. It has about 70 tenants and around 20 specializations. According to Seidlová, there are also plans for renovations at the Zahradníková polyclinic, but no funds have been allocated for that yet.
