Part of the documentation by Bronislav Stratila and Jan Roháč from the 2009 Petra Parléře Prize competition
Poděbrady (Nymburk) - Over the next few years, the bus station in Poděbrady is set to receive a new look. There are three architectural designs, each having roughly the same number of supporters among the public. The final decision will rest with the representatives, who should decide no later than the beginning of next year, said Mayor Jozef Ďurčanský to ČTK. The bus station is located between the train station and the spa colonnade. All designs preserve the historically valuable building of the train station by architect Vojtěch Krch. However, they differ significantly in other aspects. "Discussions about the individual designs have even taken place with the public, but they ended up more or less inconclusively," noted the mayor. The design by Bronislav Stratila and Jan Roháč won this year's architectural competition for the Petra Parléře Prize. However, this does not guarantee that the representatives will ultimately choose it. There is significant discussion regarding the design of the bus stop, which resembles a large funnel. The proposal by architects Tomáš Jiránek and Marek Lehman anticipates a substantial intervention in the area surrounding the station, intending to demolish the adjacent department store Jiří and build a multifunctional building in its place. The bus station would then essentially function as a square. The third vision from Irena Schusterová and Hana Švorcová focuses on completing the amphitheater at the entrance to the underpass. According to them, a roundabout should also be created near the station. Since all proposals do not focus solely on the bus station but also on its surroundings, the construction costs will be high. "The exact amount will depend on which project is ultimately selected, but it will cost tens of millions. Of course, we will try to address this through subsidies," the mayor added. The representatives will decide on the winning proposal either at the December meeting or at the beginning of next year. Ideally, the new station could be built within three years.
