Prague - Passengers of the Prague metro will be able to use the metro station A Jiří z Poděbrad again after its reconstruction. The transport company (DPP) has completely reconstructed it, replaced the escalators, and is building an elevator for barrier-free access. Work started on September 1, 2021, and the station has been completely closed since mid-January this year. According to initial information from DPP, the total reconstruction will cost 1.29 billion crowns. The station was opened at the end of 1980.

The station has never been significantly reconstructed. Besides the aforementioned replacement of escalators, workers removed leaks, replaced wiring, lighting, and damaged tiles and pavements. They took down ceiling panels and modernized the air conditioning. Structural elements such as columns were also repaired.

The Jiří z Poděbrad station was out of service for more than three quarters of a year. Trains only passed through the station. During the closure, the underpasses and the vestibule of the metro station were also closed. According to DPP, the complete shutdown during the replacement of the escalators was necessary because the station has only one exit.

After today’s reopening, work on the construction of the elevators will continue, which are expected to be operational in the second quarter of next year. The station will be the 47th barrier-free station out of a total of 61.
