Plzeň – The city of Plzeň plans to build a new swimming pool at Borská Pole for 250 to 300 million crowns on municipal land. The pool is intended to replace the aging swimming pool of SK Radbuza. The first step before construction will be to organize an architectural competition for the creation of all levels of project documentation for the new pool, which the city is expected to announce in the second half of this year, said the mayor's assistant Pavel Šindelář (ODS) to ČTK today.

"This is an important public building in a prominent location, so we propose to organize an open architectural single-phase project competition. This allows us to compare various proposals in terms of aesthetics, anticipated construction costs, operation, and so on. It is a transparent form, where an unlimited number of participants can submit their designs as long as they meet the required qualification criteria,” he stated. The declaration of the architectural competition must be approved by the city council. The evaluation meeting of the competition jury is scheduled for early December. The final decision will also be made by the city council, which will decide on the results.

The plot of land located close to the NTIS research center of the University of West Bohemia is delineated by a new road from the Sukova roundabout and a tram line. The new pool is expected to offer conditions similar to the current pool. It should have eight lanes, each 25 meters long. The city will try to obtain a grant for its construction. It is intended to be operated in the future by the SK Radbuza club.
