Plzeň – Plzeň will organize an architectural competition for the preparation of all levels of project documentation for the construction of a new swimming pool in Borská Pole. The swimming pool, costing around a quarter of a billion to 300 million crowns, is set to replace the aging SK Radbuza swimming pool on Kozinova Street. The councilors today approved the organization of this architectural competition. The conditions for the competition should be prepared during the holidays, and at the September meeting, the councilors could approve the conditions or announce the competition. The jury might meet in December to evaluate the submitted proposals, and the results will then need to be confirmed by the council again.

"This is a significant public building in a prominent location, which is why we propose organizing an open one-phase architectural project competition. This allows us to compare diverse proposals in terms of aesthetics, estimated implementation costs, operation, and more. It is a transparent form in which an unlimited number of participants can submit competitive proposals as long as they meet the required qualification criteria," said the technical deputy mayor Pavel Šindelář.

The pool is to be located on city land in close proximity to the NTIS research center of the University of West Bohemia, defined by a new road from the Sukova roundabout and a tram line. The new pool is expected to offer similar conditions to the current one. Instead of six lanes, it will have eight swimming lanes, each 25 meters long. Besides the athletes of the SK Radbuza club, which is supposed to operate the city pool, the facility will also serve the public.

The total costs for the comprehensive construction of the pool, including the wellness water world, relaxation swimming hall, accommodation block, and outdoor pools, amount to around 300 million crowns excluding VAT. If only the pool hall with amenities were to be built, costs would be approximately 225 million crowns excluding VAT. Both estimates include costs for underground parking and the acquisition of complete documentation estimated at 22 million crowns excluding VAT. The city will attempt to obtain a grant for the construction.
