Prague - A replica of the kiosk designed by Slovenian architect Saša Mächtig in 1966, which is now part of design history, stands for a few days in front of the Prague Exhibition Palace. It was placed there by one of the partners of the Designblok exhibition, which will be open to the public at several locations in Prague from Wednesday to Sunday after its opening today at the Exhibition Palace. The author of the K67 kiosk was also present at today’s vernissage.

"I am glad to be back in Prague; Prague and the then Czechoslovakia had many close relations with Yugoslavia in the past. We had a lot in common in history, for example (Slovenian architect Jože) Plečnik, who worked in Prague and at Prague Castle. Now is a new era, and we continue to build relationships and cooperation," said Mächtig.

The kiosk is now considered a cult piece among design enthusiasts. This type of kiosk is composed of individual components that can be variably assembled into different units. Kiosks quickly spread across the then Yugoslavia and subsequently around the world, becoming one of the icons of Yugoslav design of the 1960s.

Last year, one of the models acquired a few years ago in Istria, where it served as a garden house, became part of the multifunctional space Vitamin in Brno, where it turned into a café. The buildings are now nearly impossible to find. The organizers of the Prague event are presenting a replica borrowed from Berlin, where the company authorized to manufacture its replicas is located.

The Design and Fashion Exhibition Designblok invites interested parties from October 4 to 8, not only to the Exhibition Palace but also to the Museum of Applied Arts and the Prague Castle complex. The exhibition features 227 exhibiting authors and brands. The unifying theme of the 25th edition of the event, which will showcase contemporary Czech and international design, fashion, and jewelry, is the journey. There will be workshops, lectures, fashion shows, foreign guests, thematic exhibitions, as well as experimental and sustainable projects.
