Jihlava - The Vysočina Region has dedicated 131 million crowns to the restoration of monuments in its area over the past four years. This puts it in competition with the largest Czech regions. According to the regional councilor for culture, Martina Matějková, this is the fifth largest amount among the 14 Czech regions, following Prague, South Moravia, Moravian-Silesia, and South Bohemia. The region allocated 72 million crowns for the repair of monuments it owns, while 59 million could be directly managed by their owners - municipalities, churches, and private individuals, Matějková told ČTK today.

Among the largest investment projects was the renovation of the castle in Třebíč, which houses the Museum of Vysočina. More than 16 million crowns were spent on the renovation of the courtyard, building facades, and part of the interior spaces. Seven million crowns were directed towards the repairs of the Kámen Castle in the Pelhřimov area, and repairs were also carried out on the castle in Nové Město na Moravě in the Žďársko region and the Roštejn Castle in the Jihlava region. "With the help of grants and contributions to other owners, around 300 monuments have been repaired in 270 municipalities of the region," Matějková specified.
According to the councilor, the funds allocated by the region for monument restoration are increasing every year. "In 2002, it was 10.5 million crowns, while last year it reached 40 million. This year's amount will be similar," Matějková stated.
