Pardubice - The Pardubice city council postponed the sale of the dilapidated Machoň Passage in the city center. The company Pražská správa nemovitostí offered 46 million crowns for it as the only participant meeting the conditions of the public competition, of which ten million crowns were for the land. Pardubice originally expected offers about three times higher. At the suggestion of the city council, the deadline for evaluating the competition was extended by two months. "This time will greatly help us to make an informed decision. We still need to discuss the offer with the interested party," said Mayor Jaroslav Deml (ODS). The Pardubice branch of the ČSSD opposed the sale of the passage on Monday, suggesting that the building should be repaired and kept in the city's ownership. The passage is managed by the city organization Městský rozvojový fond Pardubice, and according to chairman Milan Tichý, it generates about two million crowns annually from apartment and commercial leases. The necessary modernization of the passage is estimated to cost up to 250 million crowns. The passage was built in the art deco style based on the design of architect Ladislav Machoň and is listed among heritage-protected buildings. Residential apartments are located on the upper floors, while shops are on the ground floor.
