Olomouc - The local heritage officials from the National Heritage Institute express great satisfaction with the regeneration of the city center in Šternberk, located in the Olomouc region. The city began this project last September, and builders have gradually focused on Bezručova Street, the courtyard of the former Augustinian monastery, the Main Square, the Upper Square, and Radniční Street. All work, amounting to a total of 89.5 million crowns, is scheduled to be completed this autumn, said Pavel Sehnal, head of the city development and investment department of the Šternberk municipal office, to ČTK today.

"We are exceptionally excited about the regeneration of the Šternberk city center. So far, there has not been a single reason for dissatisfaction. It is excellent, for example, that stone paving is being used in the most important places, which historically belongs there," said Dobroslava Neckařová from the Olomouc National Heritage Institute to ČTK today.
Sehnal confirmed to ČTK today that heritage officials were involved from the beginning in the architectural study for the city's center modifications, and collaboration with them continues throughout the construction process. "The main goal, however, is to ensure the satisfaction of the city's residents. For example, we changed the original size of the paving to make it more comfortable for people. Of course, we try to respect the proposals of the heritage officials, even though some solutions are often more expensive," stated Sehnal.
According to him, the repair of Bezručova Street and the courtyard of the former Augustinian monastery is already completed. Paving is now being laid on the Main Square and Radniční Street, and the construction of a fountain has begun. Workers are already also on the Upper Square.
The total costs amount to 89.5 million crowns. The city secured 75 percent from European sources, 12.5 percent was provided by the state, and the remainder by the city.
