Hradec Králové – The repair of buildings has resumed in the pre-war fortress of Dobrošov in the Náchod region after winter. Work was partially halted in the fall due to the protection of bats. Since the start of the reconstruction, which began in June 2019, nearly 62 million crowns have been spent from the planned 79 million crowns. This was reported today by representatives of the regional authority to ČTK. The national cultural monument belongs to the Hradec Králové Region.
The estimated total costs for construction work and equipment are approximately 107 million crowns. Most of the costs will be covered by a grant from the Integrated Regional Operational Program (IROP).
"Construction work is proceeding according to schedule and its completion is planned for this summer. What pleases me very much is that the interiors are undergoing and have undergone a very sensitive reconstruction to their original form. For example, by sandblasting the interior walls, their original color from the time of the fortress's construction has been restored," said Pavel Bulíček (Pirates), the deputy governor for investments.
The reconstruction plan includes construction modifications and remediation work on the fortifications Zelený, Můstek, Jeřáb, and Polsko, including underground parts. The repair is provided by the consortium of companies Solid Care and Gemec-Union.
"At the Jeřáb structure, a complete reconstruction of the ceiling beams is taking place, while at the Můstek structure, the surface treatment of the bell, including concrete approaches, is being completed. The most modifications are currently underway at the Zelený structure, where replicas of the firing holes are being produced, modifications to the entrance doors to the building are being made, and a staircase platform for wheelchair users is being installed," said Jiří Klemt from the governor's office.
The visitor center has been completed. Currently, there is also a public procurement process for the supplier of audiovisual equipment. The region will spend over 10.4 million crowns excluding VAT for its procurement.
The Hradec Králové Region has owned the fortress since 2015, when it was transferred free of charge from the Czech Army. The operation of the fortress has been managed by the Náchod Museum for several decades.
The Dobrošov fortress, along with another 12 artillery fortresses, was to defend the borders of the state. Its construction began on September 13, 1937, and was planned for two years. It was to cost nearly 34 million Czechoslovak crowns. However, workers managed to complete only three of the seven planned structures. After the Munich events, construction ceased, and the fortress was never completed.
