The repair of the Dobrošov fortress will be more expensive, the cost will be 117 million CZK

Hradec Králové - The reconstruction of the pre-war fortress Dobrošov in the Náchod region will be 22.3 million crowns more expensive than anticipated. Following the increase in costs approved today by the regional councilors, the total investment in the fortress Dobrošov, including construction work, the acquisition of exhibitions, and equipment, is expected to be 116.9 million crowns, representatives of the regional office told ČTK. The original estimate was 94.5 million crowns. The stated amounts are inclusive of VAT.

"There are new construction costs, there would be a shortfall in the equipment of the visitor center, technical facilities, and the fortress kiosk," explained the proposal for the budget increase by Deputy for Culture and Education Martina Berdychová (East Bohemians).

The national cultural monument belongs to the Hradec Králové region. The repair of the fortress began last summer and was largely halted over the winter due to the protection of bats. It is more than half complete. The repair is provided by a consortium of companies Solid Care and Gemec-Union. A grant from the European IROP program will amount to 65.5 million crowns.

According to representatives of the regional office, repairs are expected to be completed in June 2021, and the anticipated deadline for the completion of the entire project is fall 2021.

The Hradec Králové region acquired the fortress Dobrošov free of charge from the army in 2015; tours for visitors are provided by the museum in Náchod. Before reconstruction, the fortress was visited by around 30,000 people annually.

The Dobrošov fortress began construction in September 1937 to protect the republic against Nazi Germany, along with other border fortifications. However, the fortress was not completed before the signing of the Munich Agreement on the cession of border territories of Czechoslovakia to Germany in September 1938. Workers managed to finish only three of the seven planned structures.
