OFFCITY_WORKSHOP - light in public space

As part of the long-term OFFCITY project, which focuses on the public space of the city, architecture, urbanism, and various ways of perceiving them, another, the second OFFCITY_WORKSHOP will take place at the beginning of June, this time focused on light in public space. The workshop will be conducted in collaboration with the Prague Institute of Light Design.

The series of workshops will create a new dramaturgical line for the OFFCITY project in 2010. These workshops and seminars aim to practically and theoretically familiarize the public with various perspectives, primarily creative and innovative, on the city and its public space.

At the beginning of May 2010, the first OFFCITY_WORKSHOP focusing on the perception and collection of the city's sounds took place in Pardubice. In the second half of the year, we plan to realize at least two more workshops – an architectural and an “animation time-lapse”.

A seminar on light in public space, its functional and aesthetic role, transpositions to artistic installations, and site-specific activities.

Light has accompanied humanity since time immemorial as an indispensable element of interaction with the world. Besides its basic practical function, it soon became an aestheticizing tool in specific areas of human culture, fundamentally in the urbanized city landscape.
Light shapes the space and objects within it, articulates dimensions and character – the atmosphere of the visible, assigns them a semantic layer (functional, aesthetic, artistic) and is thus a specific means of expression. Look at the city in a different light.
