Třinec - By purchasing a special tourist stamp and tourist sticker, people can support the restoration of the burned wooden Church of the Body of Christ in Třinec-Guty in the Frýdek-Místek region. Both collectible items can be purchased at the information center in the premises of the Třinec library and at the Gorol information center in Mosty u Jablunkova, said Regina Szpyrcová from the Třinec Library to ČTK today. The charity account set up by the city of Třinec for the restoration of the church already has 2.3 million crowns.
The stamp and sticker depict a motif of the destroyed church from the 16th century as well as its original appearance; even before the fire, the church had its own tourist stamp and sticker. "The production is financed from private sources, and the entire proceeds from the sales of the stamp and sticker will go towards the restoration of the fire-damaged wooden church in Třinec - Gutech," Szpyrcová stated. She added that the person who financed the production of the stamps and stickers wanted to remain anonymous. According to her, 500 wooden stamps and 300 stickers were produced, and if there is interest in this special edition, their number can be increased, according to Szpyrcová. "The price of the stamp is set at 100 crowns, and the sticker at 50 crowns. The stamp will be a valuable collectible piece, as it is completely unique in its purpose. It is the first in a series of collectible tourist stamps, the proceeds of which will be exclusively designated for charitable purposes," Szpyrcová explained.
The usual recommended retail price for a tourist stamp in the Czech Republic is 35 crowns, while for a tourist sticker it is 12 crowns. The wooden church in Gutech caught fire at the beginning of August. Shortly thereafter, the police detained three young men from the Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek regions. According to them, the construction was intentionally set on fire. At least one wanted to continue this and had already selected another target. The costs of building a new church should be covered by insurance, which should also pay for part of the interiors. The rest will be funded by the bishopric from the public collection. Believers and donors contribute to the construction. The account set up by the city has already raised 2.330 million crowns. The new church should be built by the spring of 2019.
