Pardubice – The parking garage being constructed by the municipal company near the ice hockey stadium in Pardubice will have more parking spaces than initially anticipated. The football field that was supposed to be on the roof has been removed from the project. The construction firm is expected to complete the work by February next year. Representatives of the city hall informed journalists today. The construction company Porr has committed to completing the project for 326 million crowns excluding VAT. Thanks to savings from the removal of the field and similar factors, costs have so far been reduced by 13 million crowns. Each parking space will cost the city 700,000 to 750,000 crowns.
"We will definitely not exceed the costs," said Jan Kratochvíl, the director of the Pardubice Development Fund. According to Mayor Jan Nadrchal (ANO), the parking garage will have 440 parking spaces, of which 20 will be designated for wheelchair users. "There will also be spaces for motorcycles," the mayor stated.
The construction started with complications, as the utility diversions were not completed. The company took over the construction site in October 2023. "The diversion should have been completed before the start of construction. The construction company Porr faced this issue head-on; we handled the utility diversion, and they started building. The delay is minimal," said Jan Kratochvíl, the director of the Pardubice Development Fund.
The parking garage is a monolithic structure, and the rough construction is finished. The ground floor of the parking garage is intended to be a sports facility for youth hockey. The company will now work on completing the interior facilities for the hockey players. It will also prepare irrigation, drainage channels, and finalize the utilities. "We cast everything on-site. We had to bring a lot of materials here. It’s difficult from a logistics standpoint," said construction manager Jiří Tkáč.
The parking garage will feature greenery. It will have tiered terraces with large flower boxes, where trees, shrubs, or climbing plants will be planted.
A point of interest for the building was supposed to be a football field on the roof. Without it, athletes will have to cope. The playing field would have been technologically demanding and expensive. A green roof or solar panels were also considered. In the end, there will be space for fifty cars.
The parking fees are still being developed. Nearby, at the House of Music and the Grand shopping center, a private investor has already constructed a parking facility, which recently opened, charging 30 crowns per hour. "In Pernerova Street, Na Hrádku, and Sladkovského, there will be resident parking, so visitors will have to park in the parking garage. I do not perceive the private parking garage at the shopping center as competition. We are in contact, and the prices will suitably complement each other," said Deputy Mayor Jan Hrabal (ANO).
The parking garage was involved in a case of public procurement manipulation at the city hall. Last November, the police charged 19 people, including former mayor Martin Charvát. "As for me, the case regarding the parking garage is absolutely unfounded. It had no impact on the progress of the work," stated Kratochvíl. He added that the management of the fund changed after the case.
