Pardubice will approve a parking garage near the ice rink

Pardubice Up to five new parking garages could be added in Pardubice. On Thursday, councilors will approve a proposal for one of the parking buildings. It is set to be built near the winter stadium. The city will construct it by 2024. This was stated today by councilor Petr Klimpl (ODS).

The parking garage is to be located at the corner of Sukova třída and U Stadionu streets, specifically in the parking lot near the multifunctional arena. The project was developed by architect Michal Palaščák. Parking will be available for residents as well as visitors to the city center. Parking spaces may also be on the roof, with a second option being a green roof.

"The capacity should be 400 spaces. The architectural design is not just a classic parking garage but I believe it fits well with the winter stadium and the building of the district social security administration," Klimpl said.

The parking garage is expected to change parking in the area, which is currently filled with cars along Václav Havel waterfront. In the future, the area by the Elbe River is to become more of a leisure zone. "So that it is not just a parking lot, but there are opportunities for walks," Klimpl said.

The parking garage will likely cause traffic problems without further modifications. It is already difficult to exit onto the main Sukova třída from Sladkovského and U Stadionu streets during rush hour. "A traffic light intersection is proposed there, but further assessments will be needed," Klimpl added.

Another parking garage will be built by a private investor behind the House of Music on Na Hrádku street, which is near the winter stadium. Thus, there could be two parking garages in the city center. Further parking is being created at the JIH terminal in Dukla, and a parking garage is also planned near the mills, where a gallery and polytechnic workshops are currently under construction.

"This would help Bělobranské square, as there wouldn't be as many cars parked there. An architectural study is underway. Currently, there is also a consideration for a parking garage near the heating plant, where the existing parking lot would be raised by up to five floors, intended for residents and visitors, with the building being within walking distance to the city center," Klimpl added.
