Nový Bor (Českolipsko) - After the reconstruction of the busy station street, which took place three years ago, Nový Bor in Českolipsko has now also received a modern train station. Czech Railways recently completed the reconstruction of the local station building for more than ten million crowns. ČTK was informed about this today by the spokesperson of Czech Railways, Aleš Ondrůj.

"The preparation for the reconstruction of the building was initiated by the interest of the Nový Bor municipal office in improving the environment of the station building itself. The city ensured the modification of the areas in front of the station and in 2004 also contributed to the project documentation," said Ondrůj.
According to the mayor of Nový Bor, Radek Nastič, the town hall contributed 100,000 crowns to the project. "We are satisfied with the new appearance of the station; tourists are finally welcomed by a dignified environment," Nastič told ČTK today. He believes that the improvement in services and increased comfort will contribute not only to more comfortable travel for people who travel by train to school or work daily but will also contribute to the development of tourism.
According to Ondrůj, the entire building underwent modernization, but the most significant increase in comfort was noted mainly by passengers. "With the elimination of the little-used waiting room, a spacious, well-lit ticketing hall with access to ticket counters has been created. The station also has new sanitary facilities; all spaces are barrier-free and heated," described the changes, the spokesperson for Czech Railways. Employees also benefited from better conditions. The building received plastic windows and a new façade, and the covered platform was also repaired.
The station in Nový Bor is not the only station building in the Liberec Region that has undergone reconstruction. In recent years, Czech Railways and the Transport Infrastructure Administration have invested tens of millions of crowns in the repair of station buildings in the region. In 2004, the railways paid 23.5 million crowns for the reconstruction of the stations in Tanvald and Frýdlant, last year the station in Chrastava underwent repairs and partially also in Doksy. The repairs amounted to 26 million crowns. Work on the restoration of buildings is also continuing this year.
The main station in the regional capital with a population of 100,000 is also being renovated. In recent years, the entrance hall, information center, and sanitary facilities have been modified. The Liberec station, like another 47 major stations, has been included in the Czech Railways project "Living Stations" and is gradually being transformed into communication centers for the region.
