Pec pod Sněžkou (Trutnovsko) - The planned lookout tower on Hnědý vrch in the Krkonoš Mountains, which is to be the highest lookout tower in the range, already has its foundations completed. The installation of the actual structure is set to take place in the spring. The 30-meter high lookout tower could be opened to the public in June before the summer tourist season. CTK was told today by the mayor of Pec pod Sněžkou, Alan Tomášek. "This week we poured the foundations. The installation of the structure, which will be made of steel and wood, will begin after the snow melts," Tomášek said. The cost of building the lookout tower is about 12 million crowns, most of which the municipality is funding from an EU grant. The lookout tower will rise at an altitude of 1215 meters above sea level near the upper chairlift on Hnědý vrch. Tourists from the lookout will see the panorama of Sněžka, the center of Pec, and the valley towards Velká Úpa. In favorable weather, they should be able to see all the way to Praděd in the Jeseníky Mountains. The administration of the Krkonoš National Park agreed to the construction of the new lookout tower on the condition that the observation deck will be accessible exclusively during the summer season and only during the operation of the chairlift. The currently highest lookout tower in the Krkonoš Mountains, located on Černá hora, measures 25 meters, while the stone lookout tower on Žalý mountain measures 18 meters.
