Prague - The nearly twofold increase in costs for the reconstruction of the State Opera requires additional project documentation. The estimated value of the contract is six million without VAT and it will be concluded with the studio Masák & Partner, which is already working on the project. This follows from information for the government that Minister Daniel Herman (KDU-ČSL) will present on Monday.

The original repair, estimated at 360 million crowns, received the National Theatre in 2013 in a project competition for 5.5 million. Now a more thorough reconstruction costing 715 million crowns is expected, so the National Theatre will also award another contract for additions to the project. The total costs for the project documentation will amount to 11.53 million crowns, which is about 1.6 percent of the estimated cost of the repair.
The above-threshold public contract for additions to the project documentation will be awarded through a negotiation procedure without publication. According to the proponent, the reason is that only the studio that is already working on the documentation can meet the conditions of the second contract. Both documents must be in accordance, they are interrelated, and the data from the first will be used in the creation of the additions. The documentation is also subject to copyright law.
At the end of January, Herman announced that the reconstruction of the historic and operational building of the Prague State Opera should begin on July 1, 2016, and it will cost more than his predecessors had planned. Initially, it was discussed as 250 million, later 360 million, but the amount supposedly did not include all parts of the building and the restoration of technical equipment. Last October, after visiting the building, Herman spoke of 665 million crowns, and now the sum has risen to 715 million crowns.
According to National Theatre director Jan Burian, the biggest issues of the old building are the installations - particularly the electrical installations, water, heating, and waste. Moisture remediation is also necessary. Restoration work will also take place on the interior decoration of the auditorium. The glass façade of the adjacent operating building will also undergo reconstruction. The theater will see repairs to the artists' changing rooms and social facilities.
