In Southern Moravia, residential construction increased in the first half of the year

Brno - In the southern Moravia, residential construction increased in the first half of the year. Builders completed 1,764 apartments, which is 196 more than in the same period last year. Nearly 70 percent of them are in the districts of Brno-city and Brno-country. This is based on information published today on the website of the Brno branch of the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

The number of started constructions is also rising. In the first half of the year, 1,608 new apartments were started. This number places the region in second place among the regions of the republic. This number of apartments represents 12.9 percent of the national total. Compared to the first half of last year, the initiated construction in the region has increased by one percent.

The most construction is taking place in Brno and its surroundings. Both districts together account for about half of all newly started constructions. However, in Brno itself, the initiated construction decreased year-on-year by 19.4 percent. Developers usually associate the problems with new construction in Brno with complications related to urban planning.

According to analyst David Bohuňek from the DRFG company, the demand for apartments is increasing while the supply cannot keep pace. According to an analysis by Trikaya, sales of apartments in new buildings in Brno continue to rise. In the first six months of this year, developers sold 907 apartments. This is almost the same number as for the entire year 2015, when 957 new apartments were sold in Brno. Prices continue to rise, with new apartments becoming 11 percent more expensive year-on-year.
