Prague – A new apartment building will be built at the corner of Železničářů and Za Papírnou streets in Prague 7. The building will provide 66 small-scale affordable apartments for seniors, young families, and members of professions essential for the city's operation, such as teachers, doctors, and paramedics. The city hall of Prague 7 has received a grant of 173 million crowns from the city for the project and construction. City hall spokesperson Martin Vokuš informed ČTK. The city hall plans for the building to be completed within five years.

The land on which the new building will arise is managed by the seventh city district. A study was already prepared in 2012, which envisions a construction volume of approximately 3300 square meters of gross floor area.

"According to the zoning study, a building can be constructed on the specified land, which will have six plus one set-back floor facing Železničářů street and five plus one set-back floor facing Za Papírnou street. About 66 small-scale apartments could be created here. We want to hold an architectural competition for the design of the building next year, and construction should begin as soon as possible," stated Deputy Mayor Lenka Burgerová (Praha 7 Sobě).

In 2017, the city district established a housing contact point where people can address housing issues. In the past, the city hall also renovated dozens of originally dilapidated apartments. "We have now completed the renovation of the entire deteriorated apartment building on Dobrovského street. However, it is necessary to further increase the supply of affordable housing," added Mayor Jan Čižinský (Praha 7 Sobě).
