Most - The city of Most is closing the cultural house due to the emergency condition of the electrical installation. The planetarium located in the building will also be closed from the first of May. The reconstruction will last until September. This was announced today by City Hall spokesperson Alena Sedláčková. "We decided on this unpopular step for safety reasons," said Mayor Jan Paparega. According to inspection reports, water leaks into the main distribution board, which must be replaced. Experts will also repair the transformer station, among other things. The cultural house is located in the center of Most near the main boulevard Budovatelů, right next to the City Hall. The municipality sold the property for 28 million Czech crowns. An arbitration court declared the sales contract invalid before the end of last year, identifying Most as the owner. The company Crestyl, which signed the contract with the municipality in 2010, is demanding a refund of the paid portion of the purchase price. "We hold the opinion that the claim of CT Crestyl is time-barred," Sedláčková stated. The city has been registered as the owner in the land register since January 15. The city signed a lease agreement with the current operator of the building until the end of June. According to the spokesperson, the aim was to ensure already agreed events, primarily the ball season. However, the operator sent the city a notice of termination of the lease agreement effective April 30. Subsequently, the city had the condition of the electrical installation, pressure vessels, elevators, and fire safety of the entire building assessed. "The result unfortunately surprised us negatively. All the more so, as at the time the city sold the cultural house, its electrical installation was in order," stated the mayor. Tenants in the building received notice to vacate by the end of April with the possibility of returning in September. The municipality currently does not know the costs of addressing the emergency condition. "The highest estimate is around two million crowns, while the optimistic scenario is in the hundreds of thousands," noted Sedláčková. The city is simultaneously working on a feasibility study for the building, and according to the City Hall spokesperson, there are no plans for demolition. The study should also address whether the library will move into the cultural house. The preliminary estimate of costs for the overall reconstruction of the building, which was completed in 1984, is approximately 250 million crowns. The building has a very complex structure, with some of its above-ground parts supported by concrete columns, and a sphere protruding from the roof, which houses the planetarium.
