Most in Hostinné is a monument, heavy trucks will have to take a detour

Hostinné (Trutnovsko) - The reinforced concrete bridge in Hostinné over the Čistá River on the road from Dvůr Králové nad Labem to the Krkonoš will be closed to heavy truck traffic. The reason is the listing of the bridge among heritage-protected structures, which prevents the region from building a new bridge over the Čistá with a higher load capacity. Road workers will remove the temporary bridge structure from the bridge next week, which currently allows heavy vehicles to pass through. After its removal, trucks will have to take a detour. Michal Friček from the press department of the regional office informed ČTK about it today.
    The region's plans to build a new bridge collapsed after this year's listing of the approximately one-hundred-year-old bridge as a cultural monument. The region filed an appeal against the listing of the bridge as a monument, but the Ministry of Culture has now rejected it.
    The iron structure of the temporary bridge, which has been above the historic bridge since September 2013, will begin to be dismantled by builders on Monday. However, only one vehicle can currently travel over the narrow temporary bridge deck. After the removal of the temporary structure, traffic over the bridge will again be two-way, making travel through the town significantly more comfortable for personal vehicle drivers.
    "The maximum permitted weight of vehicles will be reduced from 40 to 30 tons. We will monitor compliance with these restrictions through vehicle weigh-ins," stated Deputy Governor for Transportation Karel Janeček. According to him, the condition of the bridge will be monitored carefully over time by the region. The region expects to decide on the reconstruction method of the heritage-protected technical structure in the following years.
    The bridge is characterized by two reinforced concrete upper arches with a suspended deck. Similar bridges were built in foothill areas due to increased flow during the spring melting of snow and during floods. On the edges of the bridge, there are two cubist-style lamp posts.
