Hradec Králové - The Ministry of Culture has declared the construction of the brewery in Dobruška in the Rychnov district a national cultural monument. The private owner has revived the operation of the brewery and is gradually renovating the buildings, Eva Macková from the Regional Office of the National Heritage Institute in Josefov in the Náchod region informed ČTK today.
Beer was originally brewed in houses in the square in Dobruška, and after a major fire in 1866, the current brewery began to be constructed. The non-functional brewery and malt house complex was purchased in 2007 by Milan Vedra through the company Staročeský pivovárek, who revived the operation. The new owner, for example, replaced asphalt and concrete surfaces of the roads with granite cobblestones and had the facade of the malt house repaired in 2013.
"Since the history of brewing has been my hobby since my studies at the secondary brewing school, and I have since worked in a number of brewing operations, I am extremely glad that we have managed to preserve and further develop the production of malt and beer in these historical buildings up to the present day," said Vedra.
According to heritage experts, the cultural value of the brewery in Dobruška mainly lies in its original functional machinery and technical details from the years 1927 to 1936. The unique functional grinding equipment for malt is preserved, as is a large part of the original wooden supporting structures, architectural details such as window openings, blinds, staircases, or railings.
This year, 11 properties have been added to the list of immovable cultural monuments in the Hradec Králové region. Among the technical monuments, alongside the Dobruška brewery, was also included the reinforced concrete bridge in Hostinné in the Trutnov region. "The arch bridge over Čistá in Hostinné differs in both structural and architectural aspects from the usual production of its time to such an extent that it makes sense to protect it as a monument. It is also an elegant gateway to the center of Hostinné that has been standing for over three-quarters of a century and will be preserved as a cultural monument," said Jiří Balský, head of the Josefov office of the NPÚ.
