Kladruby (Tachovsko) - The reconstruction of the former Benedictine monastery in Kladruby near Tachov, which began in the 1970s, is continuing this year with the restoration of the facades of the convent, the inner courtyard, the ground floor, basements, and the interiors of the Latin school building. This building is planned to host an exhibition on medieval education in the future. Milan Zoubek, the curator, told ČTK. "We are also discussing cooperation with the Memorial of National Literature, as they have materials that could be presented here," he mentioned regarding the planned exhibition, the final shape of which has not yet been decided. The repairs to the Latin school building cost about one million korunas annually. The reconstruction of the monastery, located about seven kilometers from Stříbro and visited by 23,000 people annually, has cost hundreds of millions of korunas. The most significant restoration in the area to date was the renewal and repair of the facades, roofs, and coverings of the monastery church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which is the dominant feature of the entire complex. The reconstruction of the western facade of the church, remodeled by Jan Blažek Santini in the style of baroque Gothic, was also significant. Heritage conservationists also expect that a multifunctional cultural center for theater actors, dancers, musicians, and other artists from the Czech Republic and abroad will be established on the site within four years for half a billion korunas. The center is to be created in the new convent building, stables, monastery garden, and natural theater. The monastery in Kladruby, which dates back to the 12th century, was owned by the Windischgrätz family from 1843 to 1945. They lost their property based on the post-war decree of President Edvard Beneš. After that, officials from the state forests and estates operated in the building, and there were also apartments. In the 1970s, it came under the management of heritage conservationists and was opened to the public.
