Prague - This year, the title of Building of the Year will be contested by the Prague leisure center Ladronka, the reconstructed Reduta theater in Brno, and the new multipurpose hall of the municipal stadium in Liberec. A total of 15 buildings are nominated, and the award may be granted to five of the best objects. The results of the competition will be announced on September 19 at the Municipal House in Prague during the festive evening of the 17th International Fair For Arch. This was communicated to journalists today by the organizers of the event.

"Building of the Year is an amazing opportunity to present Czech construction from an architectural perspective," said Václav Matyáš, president of the Association of Construction Entrepreneurs. The aim of the competition is to showcase the level of Czech construction and architecture. Works completed and put into operation or approved in the country from June 2005 to May 2006 could apply.
The jury will evaluate, for example, the quality of construction work, the architectural expression of the work, and the suitability of construction materials used. It will also assess how well the work integrates into the given environment and the satisfaction of the investor and users of the building.
The title will also be contested by the reconstructed historic buildings of the Jihlava town hall, the lecture hall of the Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové, and in the same city, the reconstruction of the Philharmonic building. Additionally, the reconstruction of the town hall in Semily, a care service house in Dubeč, and the memorial of Czech-German-Jewish coexistence in Hartmanice near Sušice.
The 15 nominated buildings also include the Zemanka residence in Prague 4, the reconstruction and extension of the administrative building of Zentiva in Prague 10, the headquarters of Neomed in the same part of Prague, the administrative building Nile House, the Kolárova residence in Prague’s Karlín, and the reconstruction of the Prague 2 district office.
This year, the jury will award the title of Building of the Year for the fourteenth time. Five buildings will receive the award without distinction of categories and ranking. A new feature of this year's edition is the Award of the State Housing Development Fund. A total of 44 buildings from across the country applied, of which 21 were from Prague. The competition is organized by the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction - ABF in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Association of Construction Entrepreneurs, and the magazine Stavitel.
Prestigious awards in previous editions have been received by buildings such as the Prague multipurpose hall Sazka Arena, the Prague tram line Hlubočepy - Barrandov, the administrative building of Severomoravská plynárenská in Ostrava, the seat of the Vysočina Region in Jihlava, and the Special School in Rakovník.
