Prague - The Ministry of Culture will strive to purchase the Reynkův chateau in Petrkov, which is being sold by the descendants of the poet and graphic artist Bohuslav Reynek. If it is possible to secure funds beyond the ministry's budget, the chateau could be operated by the Memorial of National Literature. Michaela Lagronová, spokesperson for the Ministry of Culture, said this today to ČTK.

After discussions with representatives of the Vysočina Region, the ministry said it is clear that the region will not purchase Petrkov. Given that the ministry considers the building to be a culturally significant object, it will continue negotiations for its purchase. Currently, it does not have free funds for the purchase and operation, so it will soon send an official letter to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Finance Minister Alena Schillerová requesting an increase in funds for the purchase and operation of Petrkov, the spokesperson stated.

The house was home to the poet, graphic artist, and translator Bohuslav Reynek (1892 to 1971) and his wife, French poet and translator Suzanne Renaud, as well as their sons, photographer Daniel and translator Jiří. The family is selling the heritage-protected property.

According to the petition Save Petrkov!, the house should serve as a reminder of Reynek's work and his close friends and associates who visited Petrkov. By Monday, over 1,300 signatures had been collected in support of it.
