Mikulčice - A new footbridge will be built across the Morava River, connecting the municipalities of Mikulčice in the Hodonín region and Kopčany in the Skalica district of Slovakia. The footbridge will be for pedestrians and cyclists, for locals and visitors in the heritage area of the Slavic Fortress. The work is expected to be completed in August next year. The project's costs are 3.8 million euros (approximately 100 million crowns), with more than 80 million covered by the European Union. The rest will be financed by both countries and their regions.

The project is being implemented by the South Moravian Region along with the Trnava Self-Governing Region. The construction was initiated today by the South Moravian governor Bohumil Šimek (ANO) with the Trnava regional governor Jozef Viskupič. "This is a long-term effort of the regions. The footbridge will connect the monuments of Great Moravia, but also the unique nature including the connection of two national networks of cycling paths," Šimek stated.

According to him, the project with the participation of two states was not simple. "I am glad that in the year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, we have managed to significantly advance its implementation," Šimek added. Viskupič stated that this is the beginning of a project that will connect the landscapes not only physically but also deepen mutual cooperation.

As part of the project, a 143-meter-long steel footbridge will be constructed. It will be connected to reinforced paths, which will be trails for pedestrians and cyclists. On the Czech side, a cycling path will be built to connect the Slavic Fortress in Mikulčice to the existing network of forest paths leading to the footbridge. On the Slovak side, entirely new infrastructure will be created to connect the area from the river and the footbridge with the municipality of Kopčany. The project also includes archaeological surveys in the given location.
