Mělník - The Mělník councillors approved the preparation of a regulatory plan for the urban conservation zone on Monday. According to this document, the development of the entire area will be governed in the coming years. The city will now select a designer; the completion date has not yet been precisely determined, but it should be finished in about a year. Mělník's Mayor Ctirad Mikeš (My City) stated this to ČTK today.
According to him, the preparation of the document should not encounter major complications, as the councillors agreed on its necessity. "The opposition is also in consensus," added Mikeš.
According to the proposed plan, the city center should be easily accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, and provisions for parking spaces are included. The regulatory plan is also intended to help ensure better connectivity of pathways and propose new routes, including the connection of the Elbe riverbank with the urban structure and linking to Plavební Street and the parks in Polabí.
Adjustments will also facilitate the use of public green spaces for recreation. Some areas could be changed from buildable to green space, for example, near Na Podhoří Street, where there is a grassy area adjacent to the park. Within the framework of the regulatory plan, the designer will also explore options for expanding vineyard areas between the Elbe and the city.
The document will also propose locations where it would be appropriate to build a café, gallery, information center, or other businesses. New parking spaces could be created near the labor office.
The regulatory plan complements and specifies the land use plan, guides construction, helps preserve historical buildings and the character of the city itself, protects monuments and other culturally and ecologically significant sites. In Mělník, it will also take floodplain areas into account and help ensure that unsuitable buildings or modifications do not occur in these areas.
