Litoměřice – Litoměřice wants to continue the renovation of the original municipal brewery complex in the center. They will apply for a state grant for the reconstruction. The costs for the renovation of another building are estimated to be more than one hundred million crowns. The submission of the grant application and securing co-financing for the project has been approved by the city council.

The city will apply for a grant from the regeneration program and the entrepreneurial use of brownfields provided by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. If the project is successful, the city could receive 60 million crowns, with 41.7 million crowns being funded from its own resources. The city hall intends to reconstruct Building B of the former brewery and prepare it for entrepreneurial use, said Deputy Mayor Václav Červín (Sport and Health Litoměřice).

Beer has been brewed in Litoměřice since the Middle Ages. Subsequently, a brewery with five floors of cellars was established, which shipped the golden liquid to the USA as well. The expansion from the first half of the 20th century was interrupted by nationalization after World War II. The crown brewery ceased operations after 282 years in 2002. Its largest annual production was 150,000 hectoliters.

Out of concern for the future of the building in the city’s heritage zone, the city hall purchased the site and is gradually renovating the complex. A parking lot has been created on the site of the former bottling plant. A family company has rented part of the brewery building and commenced operations this spring. An exhibition dedicated to brewing in the Litoměřice region has been established there.
