Kladno wants to issue a tender for the repairs of the theater for the second time in March

Kladno - Kladno wants to announce a tender for the contractor for the reconstruction of the city theater for the second time at the beginning of March. The original tender was canceled last October due to alleged manipulations with contracts. The city has obtained grants for repairs of up to 167 million crowns. Work could start in May or June, said the city hall spokesperson Vilém Frček to ČTK. The reconstruction was originally due to start in the summer of the year before last.
The city canceled the original tender due to a police investigation into extensive criminal activity concerning about 40 tenders, mainly in South Bohemia. Media reported that the anti-corruption police is dealing with cases where damage amounted to two billion crowns. Reportedly, half of them involved money from European grants. The frauds were allegedly facilitated by a special computer program that was supposed to randomly narrow the number of applicants for contracts. According to the police, this was not a coincidence.
The company that conducted the drawing had, according to Frček, also prepared the tender for the city. "There was a risk that the results in Kladno might not be legitimate either," Frček stated. The city decided to cancel the tender since it could not continue until the conclusion of the police investigation, for example, by signing a contract with the winning company.
The new tender will, according to the spokesperson, take the form of an open selection procedure. The main criterion will be price, followed by completion time and warranty period for the work. The new conditions still need to be approved by the Central Bohemian Office of the Regional Council, which allocates grants.
The repairs of the theater were originally supposed to begin in the summer of 2010. However, regional officials returned the request for a European grant to the city for revision. The reconstruction was therefore postponed to last year, but due to the delayed tender, it had to be postponed again. The theater's plan also accounted for the start of the reconstruction. Actors will perform most of this season at the second Kladno stage, the Lampion Theater. The theater also hosts performances at other venues.
The reconstruction of the city theater, directed by architect David Vávra, will include a complete modernization of the building, expansion to include a café with a multifunctional hall and an alternative stage. The building will be equipped with modern technologies, primarily air conditioning, a smart building management system, a security system, new utility network distributions, and mainly modern theatrical technology. The stage and auditorium will undergo significant transformation. The theater should meet today's standards in terms of comfort requirements for both the audience and the actors.
