Prague - The clubhouse of the tennis club in Prague's Letenské sady, the functionalist building of the AXA hotel in Prague, or the kindergarten in Ostrov in Karlovy Vary, which was built in the spirit of socialist realism, are among 43 new cultural monuments. The Ministry of Culture had them recorded on the list in the first half of this year. CTK reported today, spokesperson of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) Jana Tichá announced.

In total, there are 40,297 immovable cultural monuments, 47,262 movable cultural monuments, and 296 national cultural monuments recorded in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments.
Most of the new cultural monuments consist of original church buildings. This category includes 17 items, such as statues, wayside shrines, the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in Předhradí in the Chrudim region, or the crucifix in the premises of the Faculty Hospital in Olomouc.
The second largest group consists of 12 representatives classified as civic amenities. This includes the Czech minority school in the style of Czech architectural modernism in Moravská Třebová in Svitavy, a well with a pavilion in the square in Vysoké nad Jizerou, the Jewish community house in Tachov, or the Masaryk's Independence Tower observation tower in Hořice.
"In the past, this type was not very represented among cultural monuments, but recently it has been appearing more frequently. This fact reflects the current trend in heritage care, which increasingly focuses on representatives of buildings related to the daily life of the population," the spokesperson stated.
The least represented group consists of technical or industrial buildings. Among the monuments are the Lehnschafter mining complex in Mikulov in Teplice, and the Johann Schorm and Comp. (VITRUM) glassworks in Janov nad Nisou in Jablonec region. The complete list of immovable cultural monuments is HERE.
The responsibility for preserving the values of cultural monuments lies with their owners; the role of the NPÚ is to provide expert assistance and advice. Financial support for their restoration can be obtained from several sources - one of the frequently used is the annually announced grant program of the Ministry of Culture called the Emergency Program. Last year, it contributed nearly 59 million crowns to the restoration of more than 200 cultural monuments in the Czech Republic.
