Karlovy Vary – The city of Karlovy Vary is once again offering the former spa sanatorium Trocnov for sale. During the first attempt to sell it, only one interested party came forward, but the city wanted to sell it through auction. Now, it will not insist on more interested parties and will allow the sale for 58 million even to a single interested party, said the mayor Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová to journalists today.

"We would like to offer the Trocnov hotel for sale. The conditions are set in such a way that the estimated price has been established at 56 million crowns based on an appraisal, but the city has decided that if more interested parties do not come forward, it will increase this amount to 58 million crowns. However, we hope that more interested parties will sign up and that we will be able to raise the price further," said Pfeffer Ferklová.

According to the mayor, the city is not able to operate the hotel. Additionally, it requires expensive investments. Maintaining the current state costs the city around 100,000 crowns monthly. In the current energy crisis and with gas prices, costs may become even higher, as the building is not connected to central heating but is heated by gas.

During the first attempt, the opposition, particularly the Pirates, was against the sale. They argued that the condition of the building is not so poor that the deficiencies could not be repaired at a reasonable cost. According to the opposition, selling a protected historic building is not economical. The Pirates suggested a long-term lease or outsourcing the operation instead. Selling should be the last option, according to them.

However, Trocnov did not remain idle since the last unsuccessful sale at the turn of the year. Since the beginning of spring, it served as emergency accommodation for Ukrainian refugees who headed to Karlovy Vary after the war provoked by Russia began. The last of them left the temporary accommodation in Trocnov at the end of October. Now, the property, which is located in a lucrative part of the city, is empty once again.
