Brno - Part of the extensive construction of the large city ring road is the restoration of the chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua, which is located near the stop in Pisárky under the rock. By the end of October, it is expected to return to its original form and there will also be a new statue of Saint Barbara inside, as well as another statue of Anthony of Padua, Martin Čihalík from the restoration company Pastiglia, which is restoring monuments, told reporters today. Upon completion of the construction in two years, there will be a pedestrian path leading to the chapel from Pisárky over a footbridge across the new road, continuing on the other side under Wilson's Forest above the tram tunnel.
"We have completed the entire new roof frame and where there is no covering, the paint is already in the same color as in the past. The facade has been cleaned and defects in the bricks are being repaired. The black bricks have been painted with asphalt varnish. We have also installed the inscription plaques and are nearing completion from the outside. Inside, the chapel needs to be painted, the ceiling done, and the mosaic floor installed," described Čihalík's work. A new bell is also being cast and clocks are being manufactured, which will be part of the chapel.
The restoration effort was particularly championed by Vítězslav Žůrek from the management of the transport company, who worked to ensure that the chapel remained here and regained its original shine. The city leadership reflected this effort and supported it. Today, representatives of the restoration company also placed a metal capsule with messages for future generations from the city leadership and the transport company into the ball on the roof of the chapel. "Our message is more technical and factual: we are a transport company, we employ 2,600 people, we have 750 vehicles, and we serve the citizens of the city. We mention the construction of the tunnel, which is important for us, and in conclusion, we included a message that we would like and hope that those who come after us will do at least as well as we do," said Havránek.
