The Academic Senate of the Faculty of Art and Architecture of TUL today elected Associate Professor Ing. arch. Zdeněk Fránek as the candidate for dean for the next term 2012–2016 by a majority vote. If appointed by the university rector, Zdeněk Fránek will take over the leadership of the faculty from Professor Bořek Šípek, who has been its dean since 2005 and whose second term ends this May. Doc. Ing. arch. Zdeněk Fránek (*1961, Boskovice), studied at the Faculty of Architecture of VUT in Brno from 1980 to 1985, and in 1989 founded his own studio Zdeněk Fránek architect & associates (later Fránek Architects). He has received numerous awards and recognition for his completed projects. He is the winner of FOR ARCH for 1992, the holder of the Czech Interior Award for 2006, in the same year he received a nomination for the Award of the Old Prague Club and was also a finalist for the Grand Prix and New Home. In the 1990s, he lectured externally at VUT in Brno, and since 2006 he has been running a studio at the FA TUL.
