The South Center wants to conclude a new contract with Wannieck gallery

Brno - The Brno city company Southern Center wants to restore cooperation with the Wannieck gallery and enter into a new lease agreement for an indefinite period with its representatives. This was approved today at their meeting by its representatives. However, a representative of the gallery will have to pay a deposit in the amount of the annual rent. The gallery received a notice to vacate the premises owned by the city company in February due to non-payment of rent, and the Southern Center wants to avoid similar situations according to the chairwoman of the board, Naďa Křemečková.
    According to the agreement, the Wannieck gallery will also have to allow the use of the space for concerts of the Brno Philharmonic at a reduced rent and newly organize transportation and parking in the area. "These basic conditions for cooperation were discussed with the tenant last week, and due to the tenant's work commitments, negotiations on the final form of the contract will continue in the coming days," Křemečková stated. The new contract should be signed by May 1.
    The gallery has been closed since the beginning of April, and the collections are packed and prepared for moving out. "The contract is currently being reviewed by lawyers. We hope that it will be resolved as soon as possible so that we can reopen, especially for the planned exhibitions," said Petra Lekešová, director of the Wannieck gallery, to ČTK. The rent, even with the new contract, would remain at 150,000 CZK per month, the same as before.
    The Wannieck gallery manages a unique collection of contemporary art. It is located in a former factory hall Vaňkovka between the railway and bus stations and has hosted various social events in addition to exhibitions there. At the time of the contract termination by the city company, the gallery owed about half a million crowns, but paid off the debt the next day. A number of personalities and artists opposed the eviction of the gallery, and a petition was created.
