Jičín - The city of Jičín can begin designing the construction of networks and transport infrastructure for the future development of an attractive area of the barracks near the city center. The winner of the design competition among eight applicants was the Brno-based company Intar, with a price of 1.6 million crowns without VAT, said Deputy Mayor Petr Hamáček (Association for Jičín) today to ČTK. The selection of the network designer is another step in the utilization of the eight-hectare area, where mainly residential buildings are expected to be constructed. However, the actual construction of the networks will only be possible after a change in the zoning plan, which will define the route for a new sewer system in the area. The municipality is currently working on the zoning plan amendment. The second condition for network construction is the demolition of warehouses at the back of the premises, which belong to the district court. Therefore, the city is working with the Ministry of Justice to reach an agreement on relocating the warehouses to an unused municipal boiler house on Kosmonautů Street. The city already has a project for adapting the boiler house into a warehouse. Most of the other buildings in the barracks have been demolished by the municipality in recent years. If everything goes smoothly, construction work in the barracks area could begin at the turn of 2017 and 2018, Hamáček stated. The network designer will follow the land study prepared for the city by the architectural studio Cuboid Architekti. The architects propose mainly family houses on the site of the former barracks and, to a lesser extent, residential buildings. In the center of the area, they have proposed a kindergarten. Regulatory measures will apply in the defined area to ensure that the development seamlessly connects to the existing development in Čeřovce and to the line of the linden alley. Originally, the barracks area was to be redeveloped exclusively by private investors. However, neither of the two attempts to hand over the barracks to private individuals was fulfilled, and in 2011, the city decided to continue the revitalization on its own.
