Karlovy Vary - Insensitive construction interventions in the center of Karlovy Vary could jeopardize the potential listing of the West Bohemian Spa Triangle on the UNESCO World Heritage list. This was stated today by the Minister of Culture in resignation, Václav Jehlička, during his visit to the Karlovy Vary Region.

The spa triangle of the towns of Karlovy Vary, Františkovy Lázně, and Mariánské Lázně is one of the Czech candidates for inclusion on the UNESCO list. However, according to Jehlička, in order to be included on the list, it is necessary to change the current approach and cooperate much more with conservationists during construction modifications.
"If insensitive interventions occur here, then they can say goodbye to that idea," Jehlička stated. "I have also been approached by significant entrepreneurs from Karlovy Vary, saying that some buildings disrupt the appearance of the city," he added.
He specifically mentioned the construction of a garage complex under the Imperial Hotel. The unfinished structure even received the Black Brick Award from the public at the last annual competition for buildings in the Karlovy Vary Region.
Today, the minister discussed the issue of a sensitive approach to construction modifications in the city with the mayor of Karlovy Vary and the governor of the Karlovy Vary Region. As Jehlička stated, they agreed that more attention needs to be given to this problem. "Above the city hall is still the regional office, and we as the ministry. But the round stamp is at the city hall," Jehlička noted.
