Hradec Králové - The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) will begin construction of a new building for the Faculty of Science this year on the school campus across from the university hospital. The school has already announced a tender for a construction company, and the first work on the site could start this autumn. The construction, costing 432 million crowns, is to be completed in 2016, UHK Chancellor Ondřej Tikovský informed ČTK today.
The new building, which will accommodate more than a thousand students, will offer, in addition to the usual classrooms and offices, specially equipped laboratories. Currently, about 700 students are studying at the Faculty of Science. "They can all look forward to the modern teaching and research facilities that the new building will provide," said Pavel Trojovský, Dean of the Faculty of Science at UHK.
There are currently two buildings in the university campus serving the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Informatics and Management, which were gradually opened in 1997 and 2008. The new building will close off the previously open area between the buildings, which will then transform into a new square. "This space is referred to in university plans as the Academic Square and should create one of the natural meeting places for young people gathering in the university campus, thanks to its relaxation area and large fountain," Tikovský stated.
Plans also include the construction of a sports hall that will serve all universities in Hradec Králové as well as the public.
