Hradec Králové - Charles University is preparing the construction of a new educational complex for the local medical faculty in Hradec Králové. It could take four years if EU funds are successfully obtained. This is reported by Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in a supplement for the Hradec Králové Region.
The university campus is expected to emerge in connection with the Hradec Králové faculty hospital on the field between the entrance to the hospital and the premises of the Faculty of Military Health Sciences of the University of Defense. "We would like to build the complex in three phases. It should be a joint campus for the medical and pharmaceutical faculty. We will move all operations from the building in Šimková street and part of the operations of the pharmaceutical faculty there," said the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Hradec Králové, Vladimír Palička.
The university is trying to obtain funding for construction from the European Union. "If we succeed this year, the construction will be completed in four years," added Palička.
Part of the campus will include lecture halls, classrooms, and departmental offices. Another building will house a regional research and scientific center. Later, a building with student dormitories, cultural facilities, and sports grounds should also be constructed.
This year, the university wants to secure funding for the first two phases, each expected to cost about one billion crowns. The Czech Chamber of Architects opposed the competition for the architectural study of the campus. "This is not a regular architectural-urban competition. The main inconsistency of the tender conditions with current law is especially the absence of a pre-appointed independent jury, lack of anonymity of the proposal, and provisions for the cancellation of the competition at any time before the jury's decision on the most suitable proposal," stated the chamber's secretary, Ludmila Cepáková. The chamber called on architects not to participate in the competition.
The competition has already taken place. "The jury was independent. It consisted of architects and people from other universities. However, the chamber insisted that it should assemble the jury itself. We proceeded according to the public procurement law, but the chamber wanted us to address it according to another one. Announcing a competition is not our obligation. Therefore, we will probably cancel it," Palička stated.
