Study of the transformation of Gayer and Vrbenský barracks
Hradec Králové - The City Hall of Hradec Králové has selected a designer for engineering networks and outdoor areas for the planned reconstruction of Gayer and Vrbenský barracks in the city center. This is another step in an investment totaling several hundred million crowns. The main investor for the barracks reconstruction will be the Hradec Králové Region. The private company ISP Hradec Králové will build a parking house on the premises. Jindřich Vedlich (TOP 09), the deputy mayor of Hradec Králové, said this today.
The project for engineering networks and outdoor areas for the documentation for the zoning decision will be done by the consortium Architects Chmelík & Partners and the Šuda-Horský Architecture Studio for 990,000 crowns. The project is expected to be completed in four months.
According to Vedlich, the actual reconstruction of the barracks could begin in 2018. The ISP company could start demolishing a smaller building in the barracks this year. If everything goes smoothly, the entire reconstruction of the barracks could be completed by 2020, according to Vedlich.
The Gayer and Vrbenský barracks areas are expected to include an exhibition space and museum facilities. The region wants to obtain a grant for the reconstruction, and the project documentation is already being prepared by the regional authority. The plans include creating a modern depository in the Gayer barracks, which the East Bohemia Museum is already using, partially accessible to the public. In the currently unused Vrbenský barracks building, a previously inaccessible natural history collection is to be exhibited, and a visitor center is also intended to be established there.
The Gayer barracks are owned by the region. The Vrbenský barracks belong to the Hradec Králové City Hall, which, however, has not found a suitable use for the building in recent years. Eventually, the city agreed with the region to use it for the museum.
The parking house by ISP Hradec Králové is expected to have a capacity of about 320 spaces. According to Vedlich, it should be completed before the city begins renovations of the nearby historic Great Square, which currently mainly serves as a parking lot. ISP operates the entire parking system in Hradec Králové, including two parking houses.
