Dvůr Králové nad Labem - The town of Dvůr Králové nad Labem has received a European grant of 22 million crowns for the reconstruction of the Elbe's Benešovo embankment and Štefánikova Street. The town hall will be able to repair sidewalks along this main road of the sixteen-thousand-strong town and build a bike path that will become part of the international Elbe cycle path. Currently, it ends in Kuks. This was announced today by the town hall spokeswoman Miroslava Kameníková. Last year, the road on Benešovo embankment was repaired by the region for 31 million crowns.

Benešovo embankment and Štefánikova Street are the main access routes to the Dvůr Králové Zoo, which is visited by over half a million people each year. The planned bike path being built with the grant will lead right to the entrance of the zoo. The construction is part of the town hall's project called "Safety on Foot and by Bike in Dvůr Králové."

Alongside the reconstruction of Benešovo embankment, the town will also be repairing the Jan Palach Bridge this year, which carries traffic from Benešovo embankment into the city center. The repair of the bridge will cost ten million crowns, half of which will be covered by a grant from the Hradec Králové Region.

The repairs of the embankment and the bridge are the main investments of Dvůr Králové this year. The town plans to invest a total of 89 million crowns this year. The town's budget anticipates revenues of 322 million crowns and expenses of 380 million crowns, resulting in a deficit of 58 million crowns. The budget shortfall will not be addressed by a loan, but will be balanced with money saved in previous years.
