Šternberk (Olomoucko) - Šternberk in the Olomouc region has two more cultural monuments. They are two burgher houses located in the city center. The Ministry of Culture has added them to the list at the suggestion of conservationists. According to experts, these are significant houses within the urban conservation area, which exemplify 19th-century bourgeois architecture. Both stand on foundations from the 16th century. This was reported by Vlastimil Staněk from the Olomouc branch of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ). The first of these, a row of a burgher house at Radniční Street number 81, originally emerged at the end of the 16th century as an impressive Renaissance burgher house. According to conservationists, its current classical appearance was achieved through a significant reconstruction in 1875 based on plans by Johann Aulegk the younger. It still retains partially preserved Renaissance ground floor. The building underwent a sensitive general renovation 15 years ago, which cleaned the Gothic cellars and revealed and restored older preserved interior elements. "The house is a valuable document of the architectural-historical transformations of the city from the Middle Ages to the present, where various architectural details from each period have been preserved," said Staněk. The second classical house on Československé armády Street bearing the number 13 was built in 1859, probably on parts of the vertical structure of an older 16th-century house. Experts date its Neo-Renaissance reconstruction to 1870, which has preserved a large number of authentic elements to this day. Among the most significant of them is the entrance Empire portal with doors, which was registered as a separate cultural monument as early as 1962. This building was also reconstructed at the end of the 1990s. "The building is significant in the composition of the block, artistically valuable for its Empire façade and parts of the historicizing interior," added Staněk. In Šternberk, this is another success for conservationists this year. In May, they managed to get a gazebo with cubist features in Tyrš Gardens onto the list of monuments. The gazebo of an unknown author is, according to experts, preserved in a completely authentic state, including details and materials.
