Bohumín - Bohumín in the Karviná region wants to transform the former problematic area on Petr Cingr Street into a site for the construction of family houses within two years. The last of the original seven dilapidated brick houses is currently being demolished. The city intends to build 39 new serviced building plots on the site of the demolished buildings, spokeswoman for the city hall, Lucie Balcarová, told ČTK today.

"We will start their implementation next year, when we will begin the construction of the rainwater drainage system. Along with it, a retention tank and a pumping station must also be created. We will therefore drain the future building plots. Then we will divide them into plots and service them. Family house construction plots could be available in just two years," said Mayor Petr Vícha (ČSSD).

The plots will have an area of up to 1000 square meters. A small park will be created among the future family houses to connect the new development with the existing one.

"Once everything is prepared, we will offer the plots for sale through an auction similar to what we did in the Záblatí district on Slunečná and Sokolská streets. There is an increasing interest in this type of housing among people. Therefore, we are diligently seeking and working on the preparation of other locations in Bohumín that would be suitable for the construction of family houses," Vícha added.

In the place of the former workers' colony, there used to be seven houses made of red unplastered bricks, which are characteristic of Bohumín. There were about a hundred fourth-category apartments in them. The city decided to demolish the buildings because their reconstruction would be costly. The city hall will pay approximately one million crowns for the demolition of the last building.

The spokesperson reminded that the city has been focusing on transforming problematic areas for 13 years. They do not occupy vacant municipal apartments in such areas. When a house is vacated, it is either repaired or demolished. "Since 2006, the city has removed 18 rundown houses and reconstructed three in five problematic areas. Now the last nineteenth will be added to them," Balcarová stated.
