Bohumín (Karvinsko) - The problem area on Petra Cingra Street in Bohumín, which is currently also inhabited by non-conforming individuals, is intended to be transformed by the city into a place with quality housing. In the future, this area is expected to have low-rise residential development with parking and playgrounds, said Lucie Balcarová, spokesperson for the city council, to ČTK. The first project will likely be the renovation of two dilapidated buildings with fourth-category apartments next year, which the city previously rented to a private developer. "They will renovate them into modern apartments. The city will then sell the properties to them," stated Balcarová. She added that the planned construction projects will also eventually affect some local gardens, which will have to make way for the city's plans within five years at the latest. "Residential development will continue in this area, and unfortunately, gardens do not fit into these locations from an urban planning perspective," the spokesperson added. However, this did not sit well with several gardeners, and seven of them approached the city with a petition. The leadership of Bohumín eventually decided to offer them priority acquisition of suitable plots on Ovocná Street near Kališovo Lake in Old Bohumín, which the city will be offering for sale next year. "Although people have gardens only on lease and the lease can be terminated, we know that they have been cultivating the gardens long-term and have an attachment to them. They will be able to stay here as long as possible, and anyone who wants to establish a new garden, we will assist them," said Mayor Petr Vícha. There are about 50 gardens in the entire area, and the cancellation will affect about one-fifth of them. Eleven gardens at the beginning of Petra Cingra Street are expected to disappear, where the city is considering its development plans. "According to our vision, Petra Cingra Street should in the future represent a synonym for better living in the city for the residents of Bohumín," said Eva Drdová, head of the property department of the city council.
