Ostrava - The reconstructed Jiří Myron Theatre in Ostrava has a new facade with original decoration. The inscription National House from the late 19th century has also returned to it. This was stated today by the spokesperson of the National Theatre of Moravian-Silesian Region, Šárka Swiderová.

"The first stage of the theatre reconstruction has passed another phase. Most of the facade has been restored, including its original color and appearance,"
she said. The inscription National House refers to the original use of the building constructed in 1894.

Its past is also commemorated by the exhibition From the National House to Modern Czech Statehood (1894-1918). It was opened over the weekend in the ceremonial hall on the first floor of the theatre. It charts Czech cultural life in Moravian Ostrava from the opening of the National House, now Jiří Myron Theatre, to the establishment of the independent state.

The Jiří Myron Theatre is the oldest cultural building in Ostrava. "In its new form, we are now returning some spaces to their original function. On the ground floor, there will be a day café, which we will enter through a new passage, and where the theatre's box office will also be newly located. The ceremonial hall is again intended for concerts and other cultural and social activities," said the theatre director Jiří Nekvasil.

The costs for the first stage are around 220 million crowns. However, the second stage is already being prepared. It will mainly affect the technological background and will cost about 110 million crowns.
