Ostrava - The newly reconstructed Jiří Myron Theatre in Ostrava will open another new space, the ceremonial hall, on Sunday. Along with a planned staged reading, the theatre aims to contribute to the celebrations of the centenary of the founding of the republic. This was said to journalists today by the director of the National Theatre of Moravian-Silesian Region, Jiří Nekvasil.

Interested parties will be able to view the ceremonial hall on Sunday from 10:30 to 12:00. There will also be an exhibition From the National House to Modern Czech Statehood (1894-1918). The spaces of the ceremonial hall are located on the first floor of the theatre and will serve for concerts, exhibitions, and social gatherings.

"Each season, the hall will bear a different name, always the name of a significant representative of Ostrava's cultural and social life. For the jubilee hundredth season, we have chosen Edmund Palkovský, who was one of the founders of the National House association in 1894, which is now our Jiří Myron Theatre," said Nekvasil.

The Sunday evening at the theatre, specifically at the new stage "12", will feature the first of three staged readings commemorating the anniversary of the founding of the state and the centenary of the theatre's existence. The series will begin with a reading of Václav Havel's play Tomorrow We Start, which depicts what the eve of October 28 could have looked like. The staged readings titled Half a Century of History in Three Evenings will gradually focus on the years 1918, 1948, and 1968. The second evening will take place on November 17, featuring the play by Tomáš Vůjtek The Fight for the General, and the third on December 12, which marks the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Czechoslovak-Soviet treaty on friendship, mutual assistance, and post-war cooperation. Tomáš Jirman will direct the reading of the play by Karel Steigerwald Kissed Dubček. The staged readings are part of the project Ostrava!!!1918-2018. The city has financially supported events commemorating the founding of Czechoslovakia, as well as other significant anniversaries in modern history.
