Cities Liberec, Litoměřice, and Teplice have little in common, perhaps apart from their location in the northern part of the Czech Republic. The themes of Architecture Day in each city were also entirely different. Nevertheless, there is a common point that connects them. The organization of Architecture Day in these locations was taken over by regional platforms from the concept City-Stadt.net. On Saturday, September 29, 2012, a guided walk took place in Liberec under the slogan “Hole or not, it’s still being painted.” Activists from the platform Liberec:Reichenberg.net and their external collaborators showed nearly eighty interested people the gaps and demolished areas, the holes in the city—both physical and mental, tangible and financial. During the walk, some student visions addressing the future of these holes were also presented. The following day, Sunday, September 30, 2012, the second walk in Liberec was organized by the civic association Zbytek. This time residents visited the areas around the Jizerský Stream. At the same time, Architecture Day also took place for the first time in Litoměřice. The organization was taken over by a newly formed platform Litoměřice|||Leitmeritz.net, which led interested participants along the trails of vanished churches that stood in the area of the city just a few decades or centuries ago. There was great interest, and about a hundred people had the opportunity to learn about the city and its historical shaping in unexpected and little-known contexts. The project Litoměřice-Leitmeritz was created on the model of its older siblings as a voluntary and independent association of several architects, students, and artists, all connected by their relationship to their native region. Architect Filip Landa was behind the establishment of both the Liberec and Litoměřice variants of the City-Stadt concept. The website www.liberec-reichenberg.net also celebrated its first birthday. In one year, the team of architecture enthusiasts managed to collect more than 70 architects and over 100 buildings in the database, publish countless articles, studies, and student projects, and release a book. They occasionally met with the Liberec public for themed lectures and presentations. The Litoměřice team now wishes to develop similar activities aimed at promoting and cultivating local architecture.
Architecture Day is organized by the civic association Kruh, which has been dedicated to promoting architecture since 2001.
