Ostrava - Interested parties will be able to embark on original walks with leading Czech architects and architectural historians during the Architecture Day festival in Ostrava and its surroundings. Following last year's successful premiere, the festival has expanded to other cities. It will take place on September 29 and 30 in more than 30 cities. Pavlína Svatoňová informed ČTK about this on behalf of the organizers.
According to her, the highlights of the festival program will include a walk with prominent Czech architect Josef Pleskot through Ostrava-Vítkovice. It will start at the unique protected area of the Vítkovice Lower District.
Historian of architecture Martin Strakoš will guide participants through the lesser-known peripheral districts of the city, Radvanice and Michálkovice. He will showcase school buildings and workers' colonies linked to coal mining, as well as constructions related to the turbulent religious and spiritual life. In the nearby town of Havířov, there will be a walk with local architects Lucie Chytilová and Adam Guzdek focusing on buildings in the Brussels style that stand out from the contemporary construction mediocrity and the typification of other socialist housing in the city.
"Personally, I would love to meet with the author of the Prayer House of the Brethren Church, Zdeněk Fránek, in Černošice, or join one of the three walks in Ostrava, either to meet with historian Strakoš, a bus trip exploring contemporary architecture in the Ostrava area, or to experience the new Vítkovice with Josef Pleskot," said the festival's director Marcela Steinbachová.
