Ostrava - The Wednesday fire at the former textile factory Karnola in Krnov on Bruntál region has likely destroyed the city and region's plans to establish a textile museum, which was set to be developed within three years in the unique heritage-protected area. This is the concern of the Moravian-Silesian Region, reported the ČTK spokesman for the regional office, Nikola Birklenová. According to regional officials, the area has lost one of its most significant monuments. "The devastating fire is a tragedy not only for Krnov and the Moravian-Silesian Region but for the entire Czech Republic. The fire substantially damaged one of the most significant components of the nation's cultural heritage, a monument whose importance exceeds the boundaries of the region. I am saddened by this,” stated Governor Ivo Vondrák (ANO).
The future of the burnt building of the former textile factory will be decided by the regional office - the authority responsible for the state heritage care for national cultural monuments. "According to the heritage law, the owner of a national cultural monument is obliged to immediately report any threats or damage to the monument to the regional office and request its decision on how to remove the fault. The regional office is currently waiting for the delivery, after which we will take all necessary official steps," said the office director Tomáš Kotyza.
